Munsell’s Soil Classification System has been the industry standard for more than 60 years, aiding in the management and stewardship of our earth’s natural resources. Munsell Soil Color Charts are a quick and affordable way to assess soil types in any given area. The color charts in this book are portable and organized to allow for easy and accurate evaluations in the field.
With Munsell Soil Color Charts, users from a wide range of professions can share reliable and consistent information about the composition of soils at one site with colleagues anywhere in the world. Essential to a host of industries, the charts are ideal for education (universities and high schools), forestry, forensics, environmental and soil sciences, building and contracting, landscaping, real estate, health departments, geology, archaeology, and more. Knowing the color of a soil can identify its best present uses, as well as its history and perhaps even its future.
The Munsell Soil Color Book is the field and laboratory standard for classifying soil color. This revised edition features the same colors available in previous books plus additional color charts. Included are a 10Y and 5GY soil chart for glauconite soils, a 5R soil chart for Australia and Southeast Asia, and a 7.5R soil chart for tropical and semi-tropical soils. A Munsell high value, low chroma “white” page shows half steps from 8.5 to 9.5 in value with chromas of 1 and 2 for N, 7.5YR, 10YR, and 2.5Y. Use this page to describe carbonate, silica, gypsum, and soluble salt precipitates and evaporites common to arid and semi-arid environments as well as very light-colored parent materials such as diatomaceous earth and volcanic ash. The light gray pages decrease sun glare. The color chips are recessed into each water-resistant page to allow dirt and debris to be wiped off easily with less effect on the color chips. 2009 Revised Edition. Soil Color Chart Size: 6″ x 8″.
